Red Scout, Hartnell College (Salinas, CA)
Red Scout, a Farm Robotics Challenge veteran team since the program's first year, developed an autonomous, Amiga-based monitoring system that tracks artichoke growth, soil conditions and plant counts across the full 120-day season. Adjustable camera mounts and sensors capture imagery from multiple angles, while custom calibration algorithms support both 2D and 3D imaging. The continuous data stream gives growers a richer view of crop development than periodic manual scouting, supporting earlier identification of stress, more accurate yield forecasts and better-informed input decisions across one of the Salinas Valley's signature specialty crops.
