Smart Systems Pioneers - Auburn University (Auburn, AL)

Smart Systems Pioneers built a coordinated ground and aerial scouting system to modernize ornamental nursery monitoring. Their approach synchronizes a ground robot and drone to capture both close range plant imagery and broad aerial maps, giving growers a richer picture of plant quality, uniformity, and emerging variability across large operations. Shared sensors, coordinated communication, and a unified software platform support joint missions and digital twin simulations, allowing teams to test patterns and safety behaviors before field deployment. By replacing long, repetitive walking routes with automated scouting, the system reduces physical strain, improves data consistency, and helps nurseries catch problems earlier with fewer staff.
