SoilXplorer - North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND)
SoilXplorer is an autonomous soil sampling robot that combines the Amiga UGV, mechanical sampler, and an automated packaging system for lab ready samples. Guided by GPS based grid maps from commercial soil sampling software, the robot collects cores and seals each one in a QR coded bag that embeds location and depth metadata. This workflow supports high volume, repeatable sampling across fields while streamlining lab intake and analysis. By automating grid based soil collection, the system reduces labor, improves consistency, and strengthens data driven decisions around fertilizer planning, nutrient mapping, and long term soil health management.
