VARD - Shunji Nishimura College of Technology, Pompéia (São Paulo, Brazil)

Team VARD developed an AI-enabled smart trap that replaces fixed-schedule insecticide applications with data-driven, targeted pest management for cotton. Each trap pairs adhesive lures with dual high-resolution cameras and onboard image analysis to automatically identify and quantify key cotton pests as they are captured. Solar-powered hardware keeps the units running across long field deployments, while real-time app integration delivers pest pressure data directly to growers and agronomists. By turning a passive trap into an autonomous monitoring node, VARD enables earlier intervention, lower chemical inputs and a much more precise picture of pest dynamics across large-scale cotton operations.
