The CTEC Titans developed a coordinated air-ground robotics system for pistachio orchard inspection, pairing a fixed-wing VTOL drone with a 4WD ground rover. The drone covers large orchard blocks at altitude, producing 3D structural maps and NDVI imagery that flag stress, gaps and canopy issues. The rover then drives to flagged locations to gather close-range imagery and deploy soil probes for ground-truth measurements. A shared docking station handles charging and automatic data transfer between platforms, allowing the system to operate as a single coordinated unit. The architecture brings commercial-grade orchard diagnostics within reach of growers managing California's top tree-nut export.
